Galchenyuk enters NHL/NHLPA player assistance program after arrest

Forward apologizes for 'deeply disrespectful' behavior

Coyotes terminate his contract

Former Arizona Coyotes forward Alex Galchenyuk has entered the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program after being arrested last week, sources told ESPN. Galchenyuk was arrested on July 9 and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. He was released on his own recognizance.

In a statement released through the NHLPA, Galchenyuk apologized for his behavior, saying it was "deeply disrespectful" and "unacceptable." He also said he is committed to getting the help he needs.

The Coyotes terminated Galchenyuk's contract on July 11, one day after learning of his arrest. The team said in a statement that it "does not condone the behavior that led to his arrest" and that it "supports Alex's decision to enter the player assistance program."

Galchenyuk was drafted third overall by the Montreal Canadiens in 2012. He has also played for the Coyotes, Minnesota Wild, Nashville Predators, and Ottawa Senators. He has 141 goals and 208 assists in 613 NHL games.
